La Viandante - serie avio

LA VIANDANTE is a woman who walks long distances, often by choice or necessity, undertaking a journey without a fixed or predefined destination. She is a symbolic figure evoking the idea of exploration, discovery, and continuous movement, both physical and spiritual.

In the context of the sculpture La Viandante, the title emphasizes the journey of the modern woman: a path not only geographical but existential, made of challenges, achievements, and transformations, reflecting the search for freedom, identity, and equality. The wanderer thus becomes a universal archetype of female strength, representing all women in their journey toward self-determination and personal growth.

The sculpture features an iconic detail: the phrase "We should all be feminists" is engraved on the lips, becoming a visual manifesto for gender and equality issues. The figure is wrapped in a hood decorated with the symbol of the vulva, like a pin in the hair, a symbol of freedom of choice, while the metallic-toned makeup represents the strength and determination of women. It is a tribute to those who, despite the opportunities offered by more advanced societies, still have to fight to assert themselves in leadership and top roles and to claim spaces of respect and economic recognition.

Materials and sustainability

This sculpture is a unique piece, produced in a numbered series of 8 editions, with 4 artist’s proofs. As with all works by Francioni Mastromarino, sustainability is at the heart of the creative process: innovative materials, such as rice husk, are worked with organic mortars to create a compact and durable structure.
